Construction

Below are some examples of some of the garden features we have built and installed.

Compost Bins

Our forte is low-effort, solid compost systems that work. We also can provide you with paved walkways, stone or wood walls and attractive fencing.

Three Bin Mini Composter

three bin mini-composter

I designed this system to provide these features:

  • sized for one family's kitchen waste plus some yard waste
  • continuous feeding with minimal attention
  • sliding section dividers for easy transfer to stage two decomposition
  • rodent-proof
  • almost no contact between rotting matter and wooden frame, for longer life

This is the big one! Three 1 cubic yard compartments with sliding front doors in two sections each for easy removal. Fully rodent-proofed with 1/4” wire mesh.

Fencing

Two views of a cedar picket fence, stained with linseed oil for added life and zero toxicity.

This rail fence was chosen for low cost and ranch style to protect the vegetable garden from the 4 legged friend.

This fence is designed to be open and welcoming and to support kiwi vines on the overhead trellis.

Miscellaneous

An old garage converted to a greenhouse. After straightening the sway-backed rafters to take the heavy-duty poly roof skin, louvered windows were added on the end walls, and the south-facing opening was poly'd. For esthetic reasons the wall facing the back yard was re-finished in cedar bevel, compromising the light level inside. Since the greenhouse is only active in the warm months, this has not significantly impacted production.

A sample of my flagstone work. On any job, the time is taken to balance colours and close fit. The above job used heavy stone in sand with hidden edging all arouind to ensure stability. The foundation is also packed and shaped to eliminate tippiness.

An example of shaped wood edging and river rock ground cover over landscaping fabric for a unique, weed-free border bed.
